Craft Supplies Are An Investment

(Beginner-Friendly Craft Storage Guide)

When you start crafting, you don’t realize how quickly:

  • Glitter multiplies
  • Vinyl rolls stack up
  • Resin bottles grow
  • Tools take over surfaces

Before you know it, you’re not short on creativity — you’re short on space. This guide is about something I learned the long way:

Good storage protects your supplies, your budget, and your creative energy.

When I started crafting, I didn’t realize I was building an inventory.
Resin. Vinyl. Glitter. Tools. Blanks. Presses.

At some point, you’re not just a hobbyist — you’re managing supplies.

And how you store them determines how long they last.

Here are some steps to help you start taking control of your craft chaos!

🧠 Step 1: Think in Zones, Not Piles

In my personal set up, I have:

  • A resin zone
  • A sublimation / heat press zone
  • A paper & vinyl zone
  • A small embellishment zone
  • Vertical storage wall

Instead of on thinking “where can I put this?” I ask: 👉 “What category does this belong to?” When tools live near their related materials, your workflow speeds up dramatically.

🧰 Step 2: Protect High-Cost Tools First

Look at what you might own:

  • Heat press
  • Cricut
  • Sublimation printer
  • Resin bottles
  • UV lamps

These are high investment pieces.

So consider sound storage principles:

  • Keep heavy tools on stable surfaces.
  • Store electronics off the floor.
  • Keep resin sealed, upright, and away from heat.
  • Keep vinyl rolled, not folded.

This prevents warping, leaking, and early replacement.

📦 Step 3: Use Visible Storage for Small Items

Label your key areas. Why?

Because:

  • You can see what you have.
  • You avoid rebuying duplicates. And believe me, I was ALWAYS rebuying!
  • You reduce “digging chaos.”

Clear bins + labels = decision fatigue gone.

For beginners:
Start with:

  • Clear drawer organizers
  • Small stackable bins
  • Divided bead containers -seen here behind my head
  • Label maker (game changer)

🧴 Step 4: Protect Resin Specifically

Resin needs special consideration.

✔ Store at room temperature
✔ Keep tightly sealed
✔ Separate Part A & Part B clearly
✔ Store alcohol and additives away from heat

Bonus: Keep small molds near your workstation for leftover pours (you’ve modeled this in lives — it’s smart supply management).

🧼 Step 5: Protect Your Workspace

See my folding table setup + mat + storage beneath? That’s functional.

Protect your table with:

  • Silicone mats
  • Butcher paper
  • Disposable liners
  • A designated resin board

This extends the life of your furniture.

🏷 Step 6: Label Like a Teacher

I am a life long crafter and art teacher so I have reached a stage where my storage reflects that.

Label:

  • Glitter color families
  • Vinyl types (HTV vs permanent)
  • Resin molds by shape
  • Hardware separately from resin blanks

When things are labeled:
You spend time creating, not searching.

💰 Why This Actually Saves You Money

Poor storage leads to:

  • Dried out resin
  • Warped vinyl
  • Lost molds
  • Duplicate purchases
  • Tool damage

Organized storage protects your supply investment.

It’s not aesthetic — it’s strategic.

🧡 Beginner Craft Storage Starter Kit

You do NOT need a giant craft cabinet to start.

Grow into bigger systems as your craft footprint grows.

If you’re just starting, here’s what I recommend first:

  • Clear stackable bins
  • Divided drawer organizers
  • Rolling utility cart
  • Label maker
  • Silicone craft mat
  • Airtight storage containers (for powders & glitter)

I’ll be doing a full walk-through of my craft space and how I organize. I’ve been crafting for years — resin, sublimation, paper, mixed media — and the biggest shift in my creative confidence came when my space started working for me instead of against me.
